Hi, !
I have just become informed of some rather serious mis-information coming forth to us via the Independence School District. Actually, I should more specifically state coming to me and I was gullible enough to pass this mis-information on to the Classes of 1965. It is now my duty to you to put the correct information in your hands.
To wit:
1.) "We will not be able to rename the track this year as we have to go thru a committee process but we are still going to honor Coach Summa for the 50th anniversary of the Summa Relays.
Field events start at 9:00 and running starts at 11:00 we will have a presentation before the running starts to recognize the 50th anniversary."
Keith Peterson
WCHS Head Track Coach
keith_peterson@indep.k12.mo.us(NOTE: the following applies to Truman High School, Van Horn High School and to William Chrisman High School.)
2.) Here is Dan's answer on how to get the WCHS track named in honor of Coach Bill Summa.
"The district has created a committee responsible for establishing criteria for potentially naming facilities within the district. It is hoped that the committee can have recommendations to the Board of Education in May or June. After that there remains no guarantee that a carte blanche will be given to the naming of facilities. I believe there will be many factors to weigh when consideration is given to putting a name on something.
I know there is groundswell of support for various (things) to have a name placed on it. I believe it will be important to communicate to all parties and work through channels to have things happen.
Dan Ogle, CMAA
Activities Director
Wm. Chrisman HS
816-521-5355"3.) My personal apology to each of my 1965 Classmates for my informing you that the WCHS track would be renamed for Bill Summa on April 10, 2010 at the 50th Running of the (Chrisman) Bill Summa Relays. I assure you that I had no personal intent to mislead you or to set our beloved Coach Summa up for any form of public humiliation. I will personally apologize to Coach Summa at the Relays.
4.) As to the unnamed School District Official who made this eleventh hour decision to put Coach Summa before a committee rather than following through with what the District had been telling us - the only thing I can say is that in my opinion it is that person who needs to be identified and publicly humiliated.
5.) Well, all I can say about the Independence School District and the fact that no consideration was given to how splitting the Class of 1965 into Truman and Chrisman would impact us -- well that inconsiderate crap is still manifesting itself 45 years later. Coach Summa was our Coach.
End of belly aching.
Well, if you have an opinion you wish to express to the Independence School District regarding what you think about naming the William Chrisman High School track to honor the name and person of Coach Bill Summa - since the District has not yet provided us a public input point for our comments - you may e-mail Jason Dial at jason_dial@indep.k12.mo.us. If he gets enough e-mails, then maybe he can convince the Independence School District to give us the actual e-mail address for this now "secret committee" so we can have some input into their naming criteria and into which facilities become named.
So I do not have to re-send this message a thousand times - M.O. Johnson, Coach Hopkins, Coach Landess and Rick Sutcliffe (Van Horn) are known to already have some support. I have not heard anything on LeRoy Brown - so that one is up to our Truman Half.
If you feel angry at me for me lying to you - don't do nothing. Help me out by wearing a black arm band to the April 10, 2010 (Chrisman) Bill Summa Relays. Go Summa!
That's all folks - speak up or shut up - that is your choice,
