Gary "Darryl" Hurd, 62, of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away on January 25, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Burial will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri where full military honors will be presented. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Grace Hospice or the American Cancer Society. Darryl was born on November 18, 1946 to Hugh & Letha Hurd in Berryville, Arkansas. Darryl served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany as a crane operator building air strips. Darryl loved fishing hunting, camping, and working on his yard, He worked as an auto body technician for over 40 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh, and a brother, Rodney Hurd. Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Hurd and daughter, Jennifer Hawkins, both of Blue Springs; grandchildren, Jamie Johnson, Independence, Mo., Courtney Hurd, Jevin Hawkins, Austin Hawkins, and Bret Hurd all of Blue Springs, Mo.; mother, Letha Hurd; brothers, Lynn Hurd and Michael (Denise) Hurd; and companion, Shirley Arnold all of Independence, Mo.

Richard Calvin Moore, 88, went home to be with the Lord on November 30, 2008. Richard passed at home after a long illness. He was born to Lloyd and Grace Moore on May 20, 1920 in Lamar, MO, where he grew up and entered the United States Navy, serving his country proudly from 1944 - 1946. After his military service, he entered the field of mechanical engineering after attending Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg, KS, working for Adams Dairy, Zarda Dairy, Diversey Chemical Co. and Foremost Dairy until his retirement in 1985. Richard greatly enjoyed gardening, woodworking, painting, and fishing, and was an active member of Cherry Street Baptist church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Moore, a grandson, Jeffrey Wheeler, and his brother Robert Moore. Richard is survived by his wife Louetta Moore of Springfield, MO, daughter Linda Buchanan and husband Richard of Grandview, MO, son Richard Moore and wife Carole of Springfield, MO, daughter Marilyn Wheeler of Overland Park, KS, daughter Sally Burkholder of Springfield, MO and stepson R. J. Reynolds and wife Pat of Springfield, MO. He also had five grandchildren, Scott Wheeler of Overland Park, KS, Richard Moore of St. Peters, MO, Jeffrey Wheeler (deceased) , Angela Coleman of Springfield, MO, Daniel Moore of St. Peters, MO and five great-grandchildren, Bailee, Brittany, and Braden Moore of St. Peters, MO, Burke and Reese Wheeler of Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 3, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
Funeral services for Richard will be on December 4, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. at Cherry Street Baptist Church, with graveside burial to follow at Springfield National Cemetery. The family would like to extend their appreciation to all the workers and volunteers of Community Hospices of America for their compassionate care of Richard, with special thanks to his nurse, Vanda Adams. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Community Hospices of America.
