Donna Byers Mason, age 64, was born October 3, 1943, to Ensign Donald Byers and Myrtle Stowell.
She was a life long resident of Independence and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1961.
Donna worked for the Jackson County Library from 1960-1970. She also worked for City Credit Union from 1978-1988, and held positions with Burlington Northern Credit Union and Bayer Credit Union.
She was preceded in death by her mother Myrtle and Step- Father John Thomas. Survivors are Ted Mason, her husband of 26 years; son, Michael Middleton and wife Debbie; father, Donald Byers and wife Natalie, (Medford, Mass.); sister, Vicki Thomas Sergott; stepchildren, Kelly Taula (daughter), Jeff Mason (son) and his wife Cindy; niece, Whitnee Milburn; and her grandson, Adam Taula; granddaughter, Sarah Taula; and her much loved poodles, Joseph and Payton.
She was a class act and very talented lady. She loved interior decorating, gardening, music, dancing, NASCAR, and K.U. Basketball.
She stressed the importance of reading to many young people including her son and was like a magnet to young people and pets. A wonderful person was taken from us by cancer, but she gave it one heck of a fight.
She will be one of God's favorite angels.
Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 27, at Noon at the Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., KCMO, 64133. Visitation will be held one hour before the service starting at 11 am. Burial will follow in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
