From Mike Kassen: Tom Mueller called and told me he had a tumor on his spine and from diagnosis to death was about a month. He was divorced with one grown daughter. That's all I know.
Notes at the Memorial Service: Born February 10, 1947. Both of his parents were musicians, Joyce "Monty" Montgomery and Martha Olivetta Jones Montgomery. Sam's love for rock and roll had a definite beginning in his eleventh year when he first heard Jerry Lee Lewis. Sam was one of four in the Paul Smith's secret and very private "B" Club. After graduating from Truman High School, Sam attended the Kansas City Art Institute with his first apartment being a rental on Charlotte. His interior decorating was precise to cover every possible detail to include bead curtain doors. He spent a summer in New York City doing hippie things in the East and West Villages. At the Art Institute he met Margarett whom he wed in 1970. Although they later divorced - they remained close. In 1979 their daughter Annie was born. Sam was a dedicated and professional artist and musician. His focus was on the piano and organ with the guitar and bass guitar thrown in. Sam loved concerts and attended most every one that he could and normally dressing to suit the event. He sponsored a special beggars feast where everyone showed up dressed as a beggar and eating from what sounds like a Sam's caldren. During the seventies and eighties he did work at GM, but music was always his calling. Sam truly got into the Harley motorcycle world with his art shining uniquely from his machine. For the last four years, Sam had a special significant other. There was mention of a Sam owned frame shop which I believe was soon after college. Sam's puported ability to not speak his first thought was used to explain how he was always witty and bright. To a person among our classmates who shared the later years with Sam, the word that best describes Sam Montgomery is "Cool."
Sam leaves behind his daughter Annie, his girlfriend Veronica, his former wife Margaret, his sisters-in-law Michelle and Kay, his mother-in-law Margaret, nieces Morgan and Haley, nephew Britt, and grandson, Owen Montgomery, as well as countless friends...
